hey everyone! new to the forums! I have searched the forums after answers and cant find anything. my dad has a 1991 19' trophy bayliner that we got a couple of years ago. we then after a year found out we couldnt get a title due to a lean and the other owners went bankrupt! after a couple years we have finally got everything and have sent off for the title. well we have a couple of problems with it. the power trim i guess is what it is called wont hold the motor up. the manual that we have is no help. it has been 2 years since i have messed with it but was wondering if someone could point me in the direction of where to start. we have alot of mechanical knowledge just not alot on marine mechanical. I dont know if we need to replace the whole system or what? also the last time we had it in the water when we put it into reverse it would stall out? is that sign for a tune up? we were told it was tuned up right before we got it and we probrably didnt put 12 hours on it when it started. I am not sure about the tuning up either and the local shops are no help they just want us to bring it in and they will charge 150-200 to go over everything and let us know what needs to be done. I want to learn more about the boat so I can maybe help someone with the same problems or similair one day. If you guys can help at all or need more information let me know! it has a 120 force cfi engine. it used to run good besides replacing a diapghram in the carb. which only left us stranded on the lake lol. but was able to be towed back in before the storm. there is a marine place I can get parts from or I can search online and try to find anything I need. I appreciate you taking the time to read this post and hopefully can help us out!! thanks in advance

I don't have the answers for you, but if you go to Bayliners Owner Club (B.O.C.) site, there are a lot of Trophy owners with alot of knowledge and experience. Good Luck!

Post your specific mechanical issues in the Force/Chrysler area. There are lots of people in there that can help you get back on your way with your motor and it's tilt/trim and tuning challenges.
Anything relating specifically to your Bayliner boat post in that area.
Good Luck!!

Re: 1991 19' trophy bayliner questions and help please

I hate to give you bad news but I was shopping for a new boat in the late 80's and in 1990. I looked at the Bayliner. They were inexpensive and attracted a lot of first time buyers. The Bayliner of that vintage was cheaply built. And the Force outboard was a gas eater and had problems. In my search for a boat, a dealer told me he wouldn't take a Bayliner in for trade and an insurance agent told me I couldn't get insurance for offshore boating, ocean. I believe Bayliner went out of business in the early 90's or was bought out. I looked at Bayliners at boat shows and saw defects on those boats. A friend of mine bought a 28 foot Bayliner and while underway in choppy waters the whole group of cabinets came loose from the bulkhead.

I really hope you have good luck with this boat. I wouldn't put too much money into it though. I'd get an independent marine mechanics opinion on that Force outboard. Anyone else would try to sell you a new motor.

Good Luck and Happy, Safe Boating.
