Sabine Stalker,The shift lever should be shifted briskly from neutral to reverse and forward.Do you have to overshoot the shift and raise rpms to keep it from stalling or just shift quickly? If you shift too slowly I'm thinking the shift interupter switch is killing engine. It also may need adjustment if this is your problem.

Re: 1991 150 Evinrude

Welcome to iboats, SabineStalker. Usually the adjustments do not move out of adjustment, rather, a cylinder goes dead. (EDIT,my bad).<br />But my wild guess would be this is the case. You are running on one less cylinder. Try putting fresh plugs in it,as plugs last only about 80 hours on 2cycle outboards. Try not to operate a multi cylinder 2cycle motor runnin on less than all cylinders, because it may be a fuel-related problem...No fuel,no lubrication to the dead jug,and it melts-down while not even working....Kinda like me at werk on Fridays.

Actually I think I do have to overshoot. Ill look to see if I can adjust it myself. More than likely that is the problem. I will probably get a little more throttle also because before Im actually going anywhere I am nearly half throttle. Thanks a lot.

Oh, 12 footer, I have checked and it runs on all cylinders. The boat has been like this since I got it. Never really bothers me, but Im curious. I have put new plugs in it several times since I've had it. Someone may have worked on it before I got it and may have not had the adjustments correct.

You could also have a problem with the throttle cable itself if you need to be at 1/2 position to get motor to increase rpms. This can also throw off the timing to throttle synchronization(link and synch)which could also be your problem.
