Good job.----Run the motor at 50:1 mix.----Run at 43:1 if you want it to last a few years longer.

Ok. I had a look at the fuel smelt a bit varnishey. Mixed new fuel at 50:1 and ran it. Still smoked. Then ran at 100:1 smoked less and was quieter. But still smoked a lot. Will run at 50:1 in future. Think it just needs a good run. Going to the beach over Christmas as I am in New Zealand and it is summer. So will run in the ocean for a good amount of time and see what that does. 2 years of build up needs to go. Thanks for all the helpful info people. Have a great Christmas.

If you can get some Seafoam there, add some of that to the gas to get rid of all of the crud in the carb and engine. It will clean it out for you real good. I use it religiously in both of my motors (6 HP & 70HP). You can use a full 16 oz. can of it to 6 gallons of fuel the first use to clean things out, then 1 oz. per gallon after that.

NOTE: Thank you, & you have a great Christmas as well!!

you can try a good decarb like POWER TUNE from Mercury follow instructions . Some folks like SEAFOAM some don't ...

BRP also makes a decarb product ..... a good strong run may be all it needs to rid the cobwebs from the innards

Great news. Engine is running good. Idles well. Used the mercury powertune. Is now not smoking as much. After doing the powertune for a good 15 minutes I stalled it as directed. The water in the bucket was very oily and mucky. Is this normal. None of the gear fluid screws are loose. When it was sitting in our shed for a day, I noticed a good 2 tbs of oil sitting under it. Seemed to be dripping out of where the water is sucked up. Or near there.

may not be gear oil just fuel -oil and carbon crud......

if you are loosing gear oil it will be replaced with water in the gear case so just do a periodic check of your gear oil .... if no water found then it is just fuel/oil/carbon crud

if it is gear oil gearcase may have a airline crack wipe and recheck the lower oil plug after a few days Always replace the nylon washers after servicing the gear case oil

check the prop shaft for fishing line entering the shaft seal if any the seal is likely finished and needs to be replaced ..

hey if you want it to last a loooong time, use synthetic oil. it stops corrosion in its tracks, and provided 2x the wear protection. you get what you pay for in this case 100%. i like the klotz premix, or royal purple. and gas goes bad in a month now unless you are lucky and have a non-ethanol pump.
