Well this may be a bit long winded but i just got myself a new(used) boat this past week.Friend sold it to me pretty cheap but its gonna be needing some repairs that im sure ill be asking alot of questions about.

Like topic title says its a 1990 Raven 195cc cuddy.Spent most of the end of the week and most of this weekend just getting her running and looking over all the rotten wood damage that will be needing repair. So far ive had to replace points and condenser just to get it to fire up.Then when i thought i was making progress i had to do a little fuel pump work to keep her running. After getting her purring like a kitten i discovered that it was not charging and keeping my battery charged. After a little probing around i found out that there was a wire from the stator that had been disconnected and was just hanging beside the motor and not hooked up to the voltage regulator.Hooked that up and guess what happened? Smoke and burning wire when i fired her up again lol.By this time im beginning to figure out why i got her so cheap and started thinking "what have i got myself into now" .

So i called it a day and decided to give craigslist a look to see if i could find a used regulator.Sure enough i found one and the guy gave me a great deal of 40 bucks for a nice used but working one.I threw that on today and now she is running and charging like a champ and im feeling a little better about the deal i got on the boat.

The floor has a few mildly soft spots that im gonna let go for now and the seats all have nice non tore vinyl that still has plenty of years left. That only leaves me needing to replace all the plywood and vinyl on the sideskirts and the motor cover and the rear flap the acts as seat backs and tops off the engine cover on the rear of the boat.

I will get some pics of her up soon so that way you all can see what kind of shape she is in and maybe give a few pointers on the easiest way to recover all the stuff i need to with vinyl.

Re: 1990 Raven 195cc cuddy cabin

Gonna prob tear apart my floor tomorrow and see how bad the damage is to my flooring,Ive taken all the seats out and it feels pretty soft, more then i thought before now that i can step around without seats in the way.

My question now is once i remove all the flooring and put down new,How important is it to reglass on top of the new plywood? Do i have to reglass the whole floor to tie the sides of the boat back together? Or will just sealing it all be ok?

The floor dont feel soft towards the edges just mostly down the middle and i was thinking cutting about 5 inches away from the sides and replacing just that if the outside edges feel and look good.

Re: 1990 Raven 195cc cuddy cabin

May I ask how much you paid for your Raven. We have 1989 19.5 CC and are trying to sell it, but can't get a price off Kelly Blue Book. We put a 1997 Mercury Cruiser 5.7 Ltr. motor inboard/outdrive with Stainless steel prop. We also put a new starter in it at that time. This was in 1997 and it ran great. The motor was brand new and only has 20-25 hours on it. It has been sitting in our back yard for ten years, because our truck can't pull it anymore due to the back bumper being rearended. The seats, wooden floor, insides need to be replaced and needs a battery. It has a trailer which needs tires. All glass and the hull on the boat are in good condition. Could you or someone you know give us an idea how much our boat could sell for?

Re: 1990 Raven 195cc cuddy cabin

July 18, 2011. My wife and I purchased a 1990 Raven 1995CC in June 2010. We had to gut the whole inside. I have before and after photos if anyone is interested. We replaced the motor with a newer (used) motor and replaced all hoses, filters, spark plugs, and distributor. The floor was rotten and had to be replaced. We put down 3/8" treated plywood then fiberglassed it. The side board were rotten too and we replaced them with marine plywood. All seats were rotten and we replaced them. The cushions in the cuddy cabin were molded so we purchased new cushions and my wife and I covered them and the shelves in the cuddy. We hung new hull lining in the cuddy cabin and replaced the carpet in the cockpit and cuddy outside walls. We installed a new marine radio and installed a stereo. The motor box and back flap was so rotten we made a new one from the old ones had to guess on dimensions, but got it right! We covered the sideboards and motor box and back flap in marine vinyl.
Our insurance company put a value of $7,000.00 after our repairs.

We purchased our boat that needed many repairs for $1,000.00 and included the trailer.

Thats a nice looking boat.

I am in the process of buying the exact same one as we speak.

A bolt broke on the starter and they had to pull the engine to fix it.

Hopefully this time next week it will be ready
