Everyone seems to think is has something to do with the fuel system, but it sounds like what was happening to me last year. It was the ignition sensor. That was on a Merc. Don't know about OMC.

Ok, took off the nut on the carburator and nothing. If it helps, it's a 2 barrel carburator. There isn't a filter there. Bout a week ago I bought a carburator kit and I don't remember seeing it then. When I took the carburator apart I was very surprised on how clean it was. But replaced gaskets, accelerator pump, etc. Checked all fuel hoses. I guess the next thing will be to check the check ball on the pick tube or the ignition system. No water in the fuel. Tried removing the pickup tube when I drained the tank. Thought maybe it may be clogged but could not get it off. Any thoughts on a easy way to remove it?

Yup, the pick up line is usually stuck good enough won't even budge.
loosen the clamp then unscrew the threaded piece,,,
that should break it loose from the elbow fitting.

This is a 2 barrel carb on a mercruiser but if you look at # 29 it's a filter. I'll see if i can find the OMC parts break down. If someone removed it before you then you may have a crapped up carb from it being missing.

Ok!! I double checked the exploded view of both the Holley 2 and 4-BBL and neither had this filter. I then looked at the rochester carbs and they had this filter u r talking about. Will a clogged fuel tank vent hose cause my problems?

If you want to know if its the vent or not, you can run without the gas cap to see. Personally, I would run with a portable tank to see if your problem is tank related. Once you know it runs or does not run that way, you have divided your problem in half and can determine your next plan of action.
