1990 Merc 90 stalls, idles rough

My Merc 90 Starts good, runs well but when I go to idle it stalls out, both in gear and in neutral, and when I start it hot, I have to run the throttle up quite a bit to "clear it out" (lack of a better term). When I go from Idle to full throttle quickly it acts "loaded up" as it accelerates, it doesn't hickup and die but it acts like it is sluggish. I just had it in to be "link and sync'd" the plugs were replaced and the fuel filter as well. I haven't adjusted the idle mixture screws yet since it just came back from the dealer. Any ideas would be helpful.

I had a similar problem with a 60 bigfoot, spent hours trying to figure problem out. Finally cleaned it out with seafoam and installed a water separating fuel filter. I have not had any problems at all since (over a year). Hope this helps
