I recently purchased a used 1990 Johnson 40 hp powerhead to replace a blown out motor. I pressure tested it (125 psi each cylinder) and stored it in my basement until I can install it this spring. My basement flooded in a storm this week and the powerhead was submerged in muddy water. I flushed it out as best I could before it dried, but I'm not confident I got all of the dirt out. Does anyone have any suggestions for cleaning? Thank you.

You flushed out with what? Water? Did you put a bunch of oil in and turn it over? If not, you will have rusty junk and a big, ugly, paperweight.

I would leave it submerged in kero. Then it will be necessary to do a complete teardown, clean all parts and reassemble. Forget the part about turning over ... that would likely just cause damage. You need to get all the dirt out before any rotation.
