1990 Johnson 200hp 200txe trim and tilt

Hello, I need to replace two trim and tilt motors on 1990 Johnson 200hp engines. The ones that are on the boat I am buying a 1990 Mako 250 are super corroded with heavy rust.

Need help in replacing, Has anyone done this on this year engine? If so what am I in for? What is involved? What is the proceedure?

Any help would be appriciated.

Welcome to iboats.Not a big deal at all. Are you sure they need to be replaced and not just rebuilt? Have you located the new motor yet?

High Trim, I heard that the engine might have to be pulled to get at the bolts holding the trim motors, is this true?

You should be able to remove the trim unit without removing the outboard. The hard part will probably be getting the pin out of the tilt ram.

I have never removed one on that year, but worse case scenario remove the port side stern bracket, slide it to the left, disconnect the steering, and you will be able to slide the TNT unit out. You may also be able to slide the TNT unit to the left and pivot it down, without removing the pin out of the tilt ram, because as Dhadley said, they can be a real bugger. I have found that filing off the mushroom that sometimes grows on the end of the pin, along with a good penetrating oil and a large sledge hammer and punch usually gets the pin out, but as stated, you will probably swear 2 or 3 times
