I need some help I have a 1990 johnson 150 hp GT. From a cold start only it will not have fire after trying and letting it sit awhile it will crank up and run great and I can stop and fish and it will crank the rest of the day. I will try the next day and no fire then keep trying and it will fire up. I am at a loss thanks in advance for any advice.

What is your starting procedure ?-------Are you pushing the key in and holding it in while cranking it over to start?

I turn key to first click then push in to engage primer solenoid and then with key still pushed turn to start. I have cranked this motor many of times this way this problem has just recently started happening.

The primer valve is working I pulled the hose off the top carb and push the key in to engage and fuel came out I am getting fuel for some reason I am not getting fire. I even sprayed fuel mixture directly in the throat of the carb and still would not crank

The starter is turning fine it is spinning the motor at around 300 rpms according to my tach when trying to crank it. The power pack and stator and rectifier are all new. I Have been trying everything I know and can't for the life of me understand why sometimes it works and sometimes it dont

Does the engine have spark on all 6 plugwires when cranking? Have you done a spark test with a gap tester? After cranking the engine, check a couple of the plugs- are the plugs wet or dry?

When the motor does crank it is firing on all cylinders when it doesn't want to crank I have no fire on all cylinders. Fuel is getting to the plugs.

I have unplugged the black and yellow wires to rule out kill switch problem. I also hooked the controls and harness to a 115 hp to rule out key switch and lanyard kill switch. When hooked up to the 115hp motor cranks no problem every time
