Exactly... both gears work perfectly... just not at the same time, the closest I can get it is it needs 3/8 more inch of push in the cable... the length of travel to get it into forward is A LONG WAYS it seems like

Disregard this as there is NO turnbuckle on the bigger Force's.
I never said anything about a turnbuckle??? Originally posted by VivaLaMigra View Post
Jerry's probably got it nailed; you may have to tinker with the "turnbuckle" adjustment on the shift rod. It may have been misaligned last time someone pulled the lower to replace an impeller.

I did say adjust the nuts on top of the shift rod, but you tried that.

Next try taking the shift rod connections apart, the pin and cotter pin.
And see if you can shift the rod using a pair of needle nose pliers.
Turn the prop as you shift it through the gears.
It should shift easily?? NO then the seal might have gone bad and needs to be replaced. Corrosion builds up under and around the seal compressing on the rod.

I just pulled the pin on the shift rod... it is quite easy to shift with pliers

Now try unhooking the connector at the end of the cable.
Leave it attached just the end.
Push and pull the cable end and see how much play, should be almost none.

Wait... are you telling me to check play in the cable itself or in the shift mechanism
