1990 Envinrude 9.9 only goes at idle speed wont go wot

I got a 1990 envinrude 9.9 , electric and pull start , it will start and idle but when i give it full thtottle it only goes up to slow speed ,rpms dont go up. Any ideas

How did it run last year for you ?-----Sounds like it is running on one cylinder.------Check compression .----Check for strong spark on both leads.----Reed valves checked ?

I have the same motor and had a similar issue last year. Turned out my main jet in the carb was plugged. Since Racerone is suggesting reed inspection as a possible issue it may be worth taking a peek at the main jet since you would be pulling the carb to evaluate the reeds.

Ill try that ,i just bought the boat 3 weeks ago,he started it on muffs. When i start it it will rev up when i pull the lever up /choke lever on the controls.

I will check compression in next day or 2 and spark if i can rent or borrow tool to do it. Thanks any help is appreciated

Short video of boat at full throttle,rpms are at slighty above idle,5 mph maybe lol. But when i start motor with choke lever i can rev it up to high rpm ,but when throttle fully down it doesnt rev

Partially clogged main jet main jet will only rev up with choke.

Its been raining all day here in st louis, but i really hope its as simple as main jet. Hopefully tomorrow i can get it out. Would it be easier for me just to buy new carb and bolt it on instead if rebuikd kit.

Where would you find a " new " carburetor ?----Trouble shooting should quickly determine where the problem is !

Main jet is pretty easy. pull carb, remove float bowl. Unscrew jet (in the middle). Hold jet to light and see if it is plugged or partially plugged. CAREFULLY use a small wire or pin to clear any blockage. If you have a reaming set to clear blockage even better. Good luck! It's a good little motor. Love mine!

Well tried the carbs ,cleaned main jet still did it, so i said screw messing with this cant use it .so i sold it for 2500.00 and bought a 89 bass tracker 1800 fiberglass tournament fisher for 3000.00 that had everything replaced new in motor and lowe unit,new axle, hubs,rims ,tires, ,trailer is a 04 ranger ,motor is a 150 gt ,johnson with tilt trim and 24 stainless prop. Nice red flake paint,trolley motor ,and gauges,all new livewell pumps and aerators,bilge,21 gallon tank. Took it to mark twain for weekend and it runs perfect. Very fast got up to 65 -67 mph,gots the whale tail gets on plane almost instantly. I think i got a awesome deal for 3000.00 . Anyone think thats a great deal?
