I am looking to replace my VRO pump with a regular fuel pump. I am not looking for a discussion on the pros/cons etc, just am looking for some (hopefully) easy info. Below is a picture of my engine with the VRO pump removed, and the old VRO pump. I am wondering if I need fuel pump 438559 which has 3 nipples, or 438556 which only has two. It is my understanding the third nipple is for pulse which I am not familiar with. I am attempting to put this engine back together after someone took it apart. It looks like I have 3 hoses that need connected. Blue (fuel), Green (not sure?), Red (oil? do I block this off now since I am not using the VRO?). Also, what size fuel line should I be using for this engine? 3/8"? Thanks.

The fitting with the blue ( circled red )is the pulse limiter it provides a pressure pulse to operate the pump..----------The VRO pump can be used to pump mixed fuel, no need to buy another pump.-------------Need more and clear pictures to explain how to hook this up again.

I have a '91 70 'Rude and have been thinking the same thing. (actually I installed a Mariner 9.9 kicker 2 smoker and would like to use the same fuel tank).
My understanding after reading a ton of post and U tube vidoes........
Remove and plug the oil intake on the VOR pump.
In the oil tank disconnect the wires, (alarm wires I'm thinking).
Mix fuel in tank to 50:1
That's it, I was wondering IF I could unplug the wires at the VOR pump, (the fuel pump works off vacuum at 3rd cyl.).
Doesn't appear to be crazy hard, just look where all the hoses go, (but you know IF it was easy- you forgot something).
I'm not a big fan of 100:1 mix at idle (I plan on trolling with it, until I got the 9.9.hooked up).
I also figured the motor is a 1991, the VRO has kept it running this long- yes, it IS expensive to replace, but I also figure- it's working why screw with it, (that's ALWAYS been my problem-"Hey it's working AWESOME, let's screw with it" I do it screw it up real bad and have to go back to where it was before!!!
