Hi all,

We just bought a 1990 Chris Craft bow rider with a OMC 4.3L inboard. Now working backwards, is there anything good/bad we should know or look out for in this boat? Yes usually ask q's first but thats difficult when one is out and about looking for a boat and see one that looks good and have to make the buying decision on site. The front cushions on the side of the boat will require new plywood on one side but thats visually the worst part of it. Is this difficult to replace w/o sending to furniture repair? With our budget its very difficult to find anything that is good in the sense of not needing some work. A number of the boats seen have bad floors so I think we did ok.
Thanks in advance.

Congrats on your new boat and welcome. Post some pics! :D

Familiarize yourself with the OMC sub-forum here and download or buy a manual if you are a do-it-yourselfer.

I'm sure you're aware that OMC has been out of business since the 90's and some parts are getting expensive or impossible to find. My 88' works pretty well for it's age. I am a new boater/member myself and like you budget was my deciding factor so OMC it was!

Thanks for that info. Brother in law is a marine mechanic and told us OMC parts are still available - should be no issue with that. I do hope the motor is fairly problem free! Always a worry regardless of whats back there! Will check the OMC sub forum out.

That was me too, I just picked up a 1990 17' with an OMC 2.3 I/O. I'm a fan of Mercruiser myself, but the price was just too good to pass up. Just ordered a new tune-up kit and impeller kit for it. Gonna do some work to her this weekend and hopefully get her out on the water next weekend.
