Re: 1990 Bayliner 19ft is it worth the money?
lol......to the OP
as you can see, there many opinions with the out board vs I/O ........so who is right ?
its a matter of taste for your requirements.
EZ does have a good point about the thousand dollar boas sitting in a field scenario.
im my experience.....on boats around 19 feet.....out boards are preferred in salt water or big water. in boards are preferred on lakes.....why?....cant tell you !
as far as your bayliner you inquired about......i agree with pass. strictly because of the OMC.....if it was an merc/alpha set up i would be all over it.
i drove 17 hours from canada to vegas to get this one for 1700.
it was the identical boat as the one you were looking at.....it needed a gimbal bearing and a new interior.
i fixed the bearing and used the boat with the trashed interior for 2 seasons.....then i started the restoration.....after getting the boat home.....i realized the boat had a new piece of floor thrown down over the old one. and the old one under was rotten......
i replaced the floor, re foamed the boat and re carpeted. then i re did the upholstery my self. I also re surfaced the gellcoat.......total money spent....approx 15-1700 above the value of the boat. but had over 100 hours work.
the boat had a 4 cyl chev. and pulled one skier, or one tube just fine.
i sold that boat for 7800 three seasons later.
the reason why i told you all this....is because any older boat in the price range you are looking at .....is going to need work....lots of it...from a new floor to a full gut transom stringers and deck. (this is why EZ was mentioning an aluminum hulled boat. the stringers are metal so they cant rot....but aluminum boats do leak from reevits, so there is a trade off)
before you purchase a boat in that price range, i would read some threads in the restoration section. dont get afraid of rot in a boat....it will happen....and can be dealt with.
the big thing is getting a boat with a good motor and drive.
