1989 PU55 thermostat gasket

I have a 1989 Suzuki pu55(jet). I will be replacing the thermostat. Do I use silicone on the gasket when I install it or just put it on and clamp it down? Also, I had to drill out one of the bolts after I took the cover off, but saved the threads with a tap. Should I put anything on the new bolts before I tighten? Thanks.

you should be using a new gasket no silicon. you might want to use some never seize on the bolts.

Do not use a never seize that contains any copper
