I am extremely new to outboards so please bear with me.<br />I have a 1989 OMC Seadrive V4 1.6litre model 16amrdgh and Serial number 08555589. I found this on a sticker on the base of the engine inside the cowling. This engine has sat up for over 2 years and has not ran. I have removed all gas from tank, rebuilt carbs, and verified compression in the cylinders, all ~115 lbs. My problem is no spark, I have verified the neutral safety switch and replaced the ignition switch. I am suspecting it is the stator because none of the cylinders fire. My question is someone was trying to explain to me if I remove the bannana clip and a Large red connection at the engine this will completely elimate all "boat" wiring issues. I have a remote starter but he stated the yellow wired should be connected to a +12 volts. Does anyone agree or disagree with this? Does anyone have any other ideas?

Disconnecting the large red connector should bypass all engine wiring to control. Connect remote starter switch to starter solenoid large red wire hot side, and to small yellow red stripe wire, small termial on solenoid. If the engine starts, you will have to ground pack black/ yellow wire or choke it down. The simple thing is to disconnect black/yellow wire at pack/s, this disconnects the engine powerpack stop/shutdown.

This doesn't apply to your question Jagfan. I have a 1989 Sea Drive 1.6L v-4 115hp. I've rebuilt carbs, pulled heads to de-carb, new power pack, plugs ect. It dies when it gets hot..I ran out to AnaCapa Island and it ran good all the way out there... As soon as I slow down it died or after I shut the motor off and try and restart if will not fire up. If I does fire up..it idles funky like its running on 3 cylinders and when put into gear..dies right away. New power pack. Would a stator or timing base sensor assembly be the problem. I don't think its a fuel problem.. Any input would be appreciated...thank you
