I bought this boat a month ago. It set for 3 years and I did all of then necessary maintanance (changed hoses, drained/cleaned tank, new plugs, replaced power pack, new wiring from front to back, rebuilt carbs, etc.)

I've had the boat out several times since I bought it. I started it up this morning and a squeal came from the stator and metal shavings came from underneath. I shut the engine off and turned the stator by hand (compression is strong) to only hear a rubbing sound. I turned it couple of times and it seemed to go away but when I started it again it came right back with more shavings and a squeal.

Any idea what could be causing any of this to happen?

Sounds like something came loose or broke within the stator or trigger, Don't run it or turn it until you remove the flywheel for an inspection.
P.S. I have the same boat.
