1989 bayliner with force 85 engine.

when i purchased this boat i was told the engine had been tuned up but there was a part missing that kept me from using the choke that is connected to the key start. ONce i called the marina to get an update on the part i was told it was discontinued. Is there any place i can find a choke for 1989 force 85. Its very hard to start without removing the cover and pressing the choke myself. Even after it starts, it sometimes stalls. could these problems be cause by the missing part for my choke. Also i would like to do a basic tune up myself. what are somethings i should look for while doing preventive maintenance.

Brasco:<br />Is the linkage from the choke solenoid the part that is missing, or is it the coke solenoid itself. Not having the choke working properly can definitley affect starting and initial warm-up. The solenoid should be pretty readily available. Try this guy http://www.laingsoutboards.com . If it is the linkage. You can fashion one from stiff wire. Be sure when you install the solenoid/linkage that it does not bind and allows the choke plate to fully open when the choke is not operating.<br />Good luck.

The first thing you should look for is a repair manual.<br />Very easy to get stuff out of adjustment.<br /><br />You could also rig up a manual choke that would work without removing the cover.<br /><br />Drill a hole in the lower cover and connect a rod to the choke actuator.

thank you very much for your reply, i was able to find the choke solenoid with your help. I m in the process of replacing the fuses to make sure the radio, fuel gauge and speedometer all work. my fuse box is missing the cover therefor i have no idea which fuses go where.
