Hi I have a 1989 85HP outboard, I replaced the diaphragm but I noticed when buying for spares that my pump has booster spring and booster spring retainer, that matches the pump for the L-Drive version of this motor, but my motor is not L-Drive to my knowledge. My question here is what is the difference between this 2 pumps 818073A1 (L-Drive) and 818071A2 (not L-Drive) and if I can replace one with the other.

Thanks

Some times they added a booster spring to help deliver fuel?
If it came with the spring? reuse it.
I had a pair of 88/85's and a bunch of 125's 120's they all didn't have the spring, the only time I saw the spring was on a 150

Thanks Jerry, I will leave it as it is just was wondering that if in any case I needed to change the complete pump, I could just buy the one with out the spring or have to buy the exact same one. By searching on ebay it seemed there were much more offers on the one without the spring.
Fortunatelly the pump looks in good condition and will not replace it soon.

The old style pump(no spring) can be rebuilt a gazillion times over.
And so can the new style.
The valves in them are just about indestructible. In all my years, I had only seen 1 bad valve, it fell apart but Seem'd to still work.
Bought a Bayliner 21 with twin 88/85's(I owned 2 of these) and both pumps had 2 pump diaphragms in the pumps. The previous owner went WAY offshore out of Tampa and wanted to be sure not to have a failure off shore.
