1989 85hp force outboard no start issues

Ok got the boat out today ran great after cleaning carbs. Changing float needle valve. Now after getting it home I put in on ears to let father in law hear and no start. Checked it's firing hot on all three and getting plenty of gas what else could have went wrong it fired right up every time on the water no problems at all.

Choke working right? or does it have a primer?
The butterflies need to close all the way.

They are working right idk yet will double check today. It has a primer on the fuel line. It has the key switch choke. I know it's working but don't know if there closing all the way yet

Only thing is once I sprayed just a little gas in it she fired right up and then it would start just fine with no help.

Ok so my findings are it is definitely the choke adjustment. The butterfly is not closing all the way with key. The choke cylinder is up to high not letting it pull the butterfly all the way closed but if I my the choke cylinder down it will not work it tries but just clicks and don't pull down the rod. I loosened it up choked it manually and boom started up first try. My question is there any other adjustments on this thing to change that.

So close to having this thing like I want it. It's a strong moter. It did set for 10years or better before I got my hands on it so I'm just glad it does run lol. I will post pics of the engine and transom today when I get the chance ok. Loosen the choke body and move it up or down then try the choke??

If I loosen what I think your calling Choke body and move up just a little it works but won't close all the way. If I move it down were it can allow it to close all the way the choke won't work.

Yes loosen and move as Jerry suggested. It doesn’t have to necessarily make sense. That bracket grounds the choke to the motor just right and has to be mounted just right. Adjust and try. This happened to me !

Ok so here are my results. I had taken the choke off and wire brushed that bracket and we're it mounts up to. Just got done putting it all back together and had a beautiful cold start choke is working great now. Man who would have thought that thing was so tricky. I thought if it's working it's good but it was as simple as it wasn't closing the butterflies all the way and would not crank on its own. There is actually ba notch were it's is supposed bro set but before cleaning it all up if I would put it there it would not work. Now all seems well. Thanks alot fellows.

Also about the way it rides bouncing and all. I spoke to a good friend of mine that is also knowledgeable on boats and all came and took a look at it for me and says that a whale tale should help that he believes it is a weight issue with that engine be a bit heavier than the 50 hp that boat was designed for. Gonna head out and get one today while I can still operate a vehicle. Lol

There appears to be whole already there were one was on it at one time so shouldn't take to long to install

Just to update all those out there that has help me took boat out with family spent two days on the water camping and riding the boat. It done amazing. No issues at all besides the gas it was pounding lol. But besides that it done great. Thanks for all y'alls help
