HELP PLEASE! My 85hp Force stalls when I put in reverse. Going forward is fine, as soon as I put it reverse (UNDER LOAD) it dies. I got the motor about 2 years ago and I haven't done anything to the engine(Gas/Oil).I am wondering where to start .(Clean and Repair) Please Help!

Look at the plugs when you have them out for a compression check.

A fresh set of plugs after a decarb treatment might be all it needs.

But, it sounds more like a carb maladay(to me). Remove the carb(s) clean all passageways completely and reinstall. Adjust idle mixtures accordingly.

If you still have problems it might be ignition related.

Also, while you have the plugs out, observe thier condition. They can tell you a lot.
They should be black, but not 'tarry'.If they are, wet and fouled, and the compression test checks-out good, simply change them out and run the engine to see if fouled plugs were the cause.Plugs are good for about 80 hours, and less if you run the engine rich (like me).

A super clean looking plug means water. On this engine, exaust port plates tend to warp over practicly nothing, thus leakiong past the gaskets.
But Yepblaze has best advice to start with.
