I have a 1989 Evinrude 28 hp that I need a little help with. Like many of the other post I am new to the maintenance portion of the boating world so any help would be greatly appreciated. The problem is that the motor will not accelerate till the controls are at 3/4 throttle. It shifts into forward and reverse with no problems however only idles to the 3/4 throttle position . From 3/4 to WOT the motor run fine. It seems that the cable adjustment at the motor has little or no effect on the problem. Any advcie would help....

As long as the accileration is smooth from the 3/4 position on up to full WOT, don't be concerned too much. But one way to find the play in the system is to pull the engine cover off, and watch how the throttle cable moves the throttle. It can be adjusted at the cable mount on the engine.

Thanks 12footer for the response. The motor does run well, though it would be nice to have more of a range at the throttle. It's pushing a 1957 Geneva 15' and does a fair job. I picked up the boat for little of nothing and hope to get it back to original one day. Does anyone know where I might get some pictures and specs on this model boat??
