Would it be normal to see stress cracks in the gel coat of a 1989 Invader cabin cruser? The cracking is in a radial pattern around the stern drive on the transom.

It could very well mean a rotten transom that's starting to flex. When (if) you find a rotten transom, prepare for rotten stringers and such as well. Hope for the best and prepare for the worst. Good luck!

Another thought would be to check the engine mounts and what they rest on to make sure there is no play there allowing the motor to move slightly and putting extra strain on the transom.

34 year old boat. . . normal went out the window a while ago. Stress cracks around the transom are usually signs of trouble.
