1989 200 hp johnson water flow

I seem to have a lot of exhaust and water coming out of the space betweem mid shaft and lower unit.There is water coming out of the pisser though, is this normal?

You may have some bad seals between the l/u and exhaust hsg.

Thanks. I just rebuilt the lower unit and was afraid the exhaust and water in the midshaft would create pressure againnt the drive axle seal and create a leak
