Re: 1989 150hp new oil pump...

first make sure the engine oil tank is full, then remove the screw with the red gasket on the oil pump, this will bleed the pump. now once all air bubbles disapear remove the link rod, open the oil pump to wide open. start the engine, I usually do this with a remote premixed tank.
once running remove the oil line to #2 cylinder and watch for air bubble free oil pulses.
once thats verified hook it all back up and go play.
you do have the correct service manual and tech liturature dont you ?

I would run the engine on premix (oil and gas) while I was testing the oil pump. What is the part number of the oil pump. There was a conversion kit to change to a different oil pump. Was your motor previously converted? The conversion pump is Part # 6R3-13200-09-00. There is an oil pump conversion kit that contains all the parts required to go to the new design pump.
