Hey I hope someone can help!!!!! I have a 88 yamaha 40. It ran good when we first got it after sitting for about 2 years. It ran good for about a month after that and then it starting acting up only running at about half speed on the way back. It just got worse and worse until finally now I have to pull the choke out and leave it out for it to ruffly idle. A friend suggested the thermostat but I changed that and no luck. I also cleaned the carbs about 3 times also. But I didnt soak them.

Any help greatly appreciated!!!!!!!!!!

Re: 1988 Yamaha 40

If it was running lean because of fuel issues the you may have messed up a cylinder or 2 by keeping on running it with the problem still occurring.
check compression on all cylinders to see if the motor is still viable and then test spark.
If those are good the clean the carbs properly
