Picked up this little gem for $80 in Aubrey, TX. It's a mess....motor is locked up and the sole, as small as it is, is soft. Anyone see these before?

It appears to use a "regular" trolling motor lower unit that threads onto a short shaft the a steering rod connects to. Pretty simple, until I tear it all apart of course. My plans are to take up the "floor", pour in some foam and put a fresh piece of ply down with a light layer of glass. Sand the entire boat top and bottom with a fresh coat of paint. Do you think I should cut a hole in the top directly above the shaft for the motor for easy access? It's about 14' long and would guess the weight around 100lbs. Possibly some wet foam.....

Thoughts?

Forum upgrade did NOT go as planned. Pix (or lack of them) is only 1 of many current problems of operating & using the site.

Try using a 3rd party pix hosting site. Many of us use Photobucket. Copy the IMG code under/beside the pix you want to post. it looks like this:
IMG]http://i1246.photobucket.com/albums/other%20people%20boats%20or%20pix%20info/sunk.jpg[/IMG

And the image are IN your post rather then attachments that must be opened. For now it seems to be allowing photobucket pix:

The kayak looks really cool, and having an electric trolling motor system is very unique. Do you know if the system even works still? I wonder how old it is, and where the battery will be stored? I would not cut any holes in anything until everything is assessed and decisions are made about use. Some Kayaks are designed to be flipped or submerged to some degree and have rubber skirts that go around the cockpit area. I wonder how tipsy this unit will be and how that could affect the drive system. Most definitely a rare bird if all the stuff is factory made. Heck for $80 you stole it. A good paddle for a Kayak is close to $80 so yep good buy. I paid close to $450.00 for one that I use on the Great Lakes in Michigan, it scoots along quick just paddling. There are a couple ship wrecks I visit and fish over on Lake Huron, and the Kayak is the way I get out there. Have fun with it!!
I always wanted to try to troll for Salmon in mine when the fish come in close every fall, it would be a very fun getting dragged around by a 20 pound fish, then throw him in the smoker for good snacks!!
