Hi,

I have tried searching but I am unable to find an answer so thought I would start new.

I have a 6hp Johnson - model -AJ6BACCS. It is an Australian model.

I am hoping someone can point me in the right direction.

When I am at full throttle the idle does not change. Instead where the steering handle bends upwards the throttle cable bulges out into the open... I have been able to use pliers and push the cable in for a slight increase in speed but not much.

Does anyone have any ideas on where to start? My knowledge on this is very basic.

Thanks

Thanks for the reply.

Lever #39 does not move when the handle is twisted. Part #33 looks fine, is the thing that is screwed through it meant to move or does that just hold the cable inside?

Is there a way i can check the Armature plate? I am unable to find it on any of the diagrams.

I have ordered a manual but it will take upwards of a week to be shipped to Aust.

Thank

Disconnect the cable end from armature plate and try to turn it manually. If stuck, remove flywheel and lubricate the plate.
Check that cable moves in and out when disconnected and handle twisted/turned.

Re: 1988 Johnson, 6hp. Throttle problems

Thanks for the reply Haffiman.

When I disconnect the cable I can easily turn the plate manually.

When I turn the handle the cable does not move in or out at lever #39, instead it bulges out of the steering handle where it lifts up. I can move the cable from connector #10 but it is very tight.

Does this mean there is a problem with the throttle cable?
