1988 johnson 48 spl

tilt and trim on my 1988 48 spl works but wont stay up. rebuild kit ? , seals?, check valve ? whats up.?

I don't think the '88 48 had T&T. The 50 did. The smallest amount of trash will cause what you're seeing, but you may have a bad valve or seal also. An OEM shop manual may be helpful. Carefully ID your motor first.

is it a regular tnt?? or one of the dealer add ons, that had a bracket that mounts onto the stern bracket on the starboard side???? and the motor is mounted outside the stern bracket..

thanks bob , yes thats it . it operates ok wont stay up. and doesnt seem to have the power to go up when the engine is in gear much over idle speed . i can hear the t&t moter operating but wont tilt engine up. Howard

maybe you can get a rebuild kit....seems a long shot.....they are made by PRESTOLITE
