I've got a really nice old wagoneer, that's currently at Aamco getting the transmission rebuilt and I understand that they can tow 5000 lbs, but should I be weary of towing anything with this vehicle, I've got a Hobie 16 and perhaps a 20 ft proline that I may want to tow from Jacksonville, FL to the Keys with this vehicle, and I just want to make sure it will be safe and won't harm my truck.

Thanks, Dan

Not a problem at all unless the shop sees something else wrong. I had a couple of the 'big' Wagoneers ('72 and '78) and towed a 4500# cuddy all over the Northeast.
The Quadratrack does a nice job and the brakes were adequate- but I also had tandem brakes on the trailer.
Towing a 20 footer around Florida should be easy but make sure your cooling system is in good shape!

My '78 Grand Wagoneer Quadra-Trac was one of the best tow vehicles I have had. It had been upgraded with a super tow package and extra fuel tank. It needed the extra fuel tank. Only tow machine I have had that was better for 5K# and less was a '99 Mercedes ML 430.

Have Aamco add a larger transmission cooler to prevent overheating while they are at it.

I'm having them add the transmission cooler. From what I can see I don't think my truck had the class three hitch. What was the difference between the wagoneers that had 5000 lbs capacity and the 3500lbs capacity? What would it take to make mine pull 5000lbs
