1988 Evinrude VRO v4 120hp - Specs

It seems im having an issue find the RPM Specifications on this particular motor. Looking at changing the prop, but would like to know the WOT max rpm and as well as the max rpm for this motor.

The motor should be propped to get 5800 RPM @ WOT (that would also be max RPM, although no harm in going up to 6200, but I wouldn't prop for that).

The pack rev limit is 6700.

The stated full throttle operating range is 5000 to 6000 RPM, found in the specifications sheet of either your factory service manual (page 1-8), or your owner's manual (page 4).

I prop mine to the upper limit of the full throttle range with my average load.

Thanks a bunch guys,

Unfortunately I'll have to wait for my boat to return to test it and make sure, its current RPM Standing. I believe the owner before hand had no idea what he was doing, or maybe had a 12.3/4 x 23 pitch 3 blade on this boat for a reason, but no clue why! Its a 16.5' larson Sanza, and that prop just doesnt seem to work well IMO.

Sounds like a lot of pitch for your outfit. I have a 140hp 1985 on my Doral in my avatar with a 14 X 19" ported aluminum prop. I am at 5,700 rpm at WOT.
5,500 to 6,000 is good in my opinion.

The 1988 120 is a V4 looper. That was the first year they went to a 2 liter block. Very minor changes between the 120 and 140 looper.

I'm looking at an OMC Service Manual here and a 120 HP is not listed.
Only 88-90-110-150-155-175.

Fed, look at the BRP website ... they list in the parts section, 2 Ev 120 models for '88.

I see it there Wilde, I'm guessing my Manual only covers cross flows.
There must be a whole other Manual for loopers.
