hi
i have a 1988 evinrude 15 hp(model e15rccs) that i bought last year. it looks brand new inside and out. the guy who had it before said the engine stood in his garage for a few years and just before i bought it he had the carb and fuel pump rebuilt(i have all receipts).i took it out on the water and it started right up and ran great for about 10 minutes then it lost power and it died out. i brought it home and went and replaced the fuel line and the old metal tank with a plastic one. it ran longer and when i tried it at home with the hose attached it runs perfect.took it out and it had the same problem but it ran for like 15 minutes this time. got home ordered a fuel pump repair kit and a new one first when i took apart the old one it was assembled wrong and i rebuilt it and put it away as a spare and dropped in the new one then i bought new spark plugs and the engine ran even smoother not that it ran rough before but there was a difference. also someone told me to replace the power pack and i did. didn't do much though so now im thinking it would be easiest to just replace the carb and i found a site that has em but now im lost on which one to buy (the site:

if anyone can help thanks in advance

Re: 1988 evinrude 15hp carb

Welcome antoshka!

You would do better to take the money that would buy a new carb and invest in an OEM service manual and with what's left (and there will be a lot) purchase an OEM carb kit and rebuild it yourself.(and there will still be enough for a 12 pack of Bud longnecks..... :)

I'm trying to pin down exactly what the problem is with the engine. Does it still run for a while and quit? If so, when it quits, is it just a dead stall or does it cough and jerk before shutting down? When the engine shuts down, have you checked the block to see if it's overheating? (setting for such a long period of time, the impeller could be shot). Give us a little more and we'll see what we can come up with.

thanks for the welcome and reply
you're right about the money part and i do have a carb kit and i am planning on rebuilding the one i currently have and keeping it as a spare. as for the problem im guessing the carb is clogged. it does run for a while and quit, when it quits it coughs and jerks then dies slowly but fires right back up. the block does not overheat, i checked
