1988 evinrude 120

My first time on this site, heard it's the best. Here's my problem, While fishing last month my motor died in between drifts. It ran fine for 2 days then when I went to start it after a 1 hour drift it would turn over fine but never popped off. Had to get towed back, pretty embarrassing. I pulled the plugs and turned it over at the house and there is no fire to the plugs. Here's a harder problem for you, This motor has always run good but from a dead stop it boggs bad, takes about 75 yards get the rpm's up. Could this be related? Thanks in advance for the help.

Welcome whaler!<br /><br />What ya' want to do is check the spark....not watch the spark plugs jump, but make sure each spark will jump a 1/2" gap with a hot thick spark. The dead engine sounds like you lost the pack.<br /><br />The bogging down sounds like a carb problem. Too much gas and then the air catches up. Know when the last time the carbs was overhauled?

The carbs have not been touched since the day the engine was rebuilt, they were rebuilt at that time but even with the fresh carb rebuild the motor did the same thing.The mechanic was stumped. Thanks for your reply.

Just to eliminate the key switch, safety switch, or any of the forward wiring unplug the big main plug to the engine and jump start the motor from the solenoid. See if it has fire then.
