hi everyone on here took my 1988 Edson 17" 110hp outboard to shop to get the engine bolts resealed cause of a leak I have been chasing.so the shop tells me they cant seal it cause the transom is spongy so now I am planning on replacing the transom I am assuming the stringers will need to be done also cause of the age off the boat. my floor is solid no soft spots that I have found anywhere. so now to my question could I replace the transom and do the floor and stringers at a later date ? I don't think the stringers are tied into the transom but ill have to take a look tomorrow?

Welcome edson1988 !
I see your problem. A 110hp o/b is waaaay to big for a 17 inch boat .. :D
Just kidding ! If The stringers are really bad off it would be best to do it all at one time . That being said I have done the stringer band aid thing and it lasted one season . Now we are doing the hole shabang ! Get a good look at it and go from there . Your in the right place for good guidance that's for sure !

I would think you would be forced into some degree of demolition to the stringers where they meet the transom in order to get the new one in. That kills the practicality of trying to avoid doing the stringers too.

ha ha ha 17 inch boat price to replace everything would have been so cheap . how much would it cost in materials for floor and stringers and transom for this size of boat my budget is around 1500-2000 . how do you calculate how much resin you would need ? looking to keep things on the cheaper side. this is my fishing boat no need to make it a show piece. I have been reading a lot on this forum already.

thanks for the replies

so today I was hoping that the stringers were still in 1 piece so I could use as templates.so I drilled to see if they were. came back as compost. I have 1 more fishing trip before I dive into this restoration. thanks for the link I was reading it last night lots of great info. going to read over it few times. thanks for the replies
