Thanx very much guy's, I guess I kinda knew about OMC, My very 1st boat was a 1976 20ft. Grady. I am a Ford guy, and at the time, I didnt know better and bought it because it was the first boat I saw with a Ford [302/5.0L] . It had OMC drive that was a piece of crap, and I had a hard time finding parts for it back in 1998, I just thought it was because it was so old. I have had 3 trouble free Alpha's since then. I've also had numerous Johnson/Rudes [18hp to 200hp] on my small fishing/project boats that were trouble free, so I thought maybe OMC got better since th 70's. Guess I was wrong [never heard ur wife say that, have you?] LOL!! Amazing how OMC got the outboards figured out, and clueless on the stern drive !!!!!!!

Um.......OMC went out of business in 1998 or so. The Johnsons and Rudes went to Bombardier(BRP) .............. (If I was going to buy a new outboard, I'd get an Evinrude ETEC!!)

Volvo Penta took what they wanted of the OMC Cobra SX but didn't really agree to support any of the older OMC "stuff".

I think you can still get *some* parts from http://evinrude-parts.com/ and/or BRP......(but not for a 7.5L!!

Oh....they weren't all that bad in their day. All drive systems need parts and tech support from their respective manufacturers .........Besides.... like I said in another post.....they (Merc/OMC/Volvo) were all designed by Mercury one way or another!!! But no one wanted to tell Kiekhaefer!! http://www.rbbi.com/folders/pat/isd.htm

Cheers,

Rick
