1988 88 Special model # J88MSLCCC

out in the boat today, ran great, coming into dock, would not go into neutral, shift lever was in neutral, played with shifter, and it finally went to neutral, but idled at about 2500.(no tach) shut it down and every time i restart it revs high. removed cowl, all linkage looks to be working correctly, and idle screw is against the stop. any ideas?

found what caused it, now how do it keep it from happening again. the adjusting nut on the bolt below the idle stop screw had vibrated all the way to the end of the bolt, and was about to fall out of the black bracket. if you need picture email me @ tashasdaddy@comcast.net.

Put a drop of loc-tite on the threads, then screw that nut down where it belongs. That'll keep it there.
