1988 60HP - Greasing Shift Shaft

I cant seem to get my grease gun to fit on this zerk fitting. Its like its a non-standard size (bigger than the other fittigns on the motor). Anyone else have this issue? Any ideas for getting grease into there?

OK, so I'm ignorant, but what zerk on what shift shaft? Are you talking about the shift shaft that runs across under the carburetor?

Yeah. Theres what appears to be a grease fitting, but almost looks like a cast feature rather than a thread on zerk. My grease gun doesnt fit it..
