Its been soaking for two weeks, I've tried wedges, heat, and every type of penetrating oil I could find but no change.
I've cut away about 1/3 of the mid housing and can get a pretty good look at the shaft and exposed splines. If I soak the area with oil, it slowly soaks in and goes down but the brass looking part you see is spring loaded, its not the end of the crank itself so I can't tell how much oil is actually making it down the splines.
There's a 1/4" gap at the lower unit housing, and its not changed.
I've tried chattering on the side of the shaft with an air hammer but it didn't do a thing.
Heating it does nothing because I can't get anywhere near the crank itself from inside the mid housing.

Its looking like I'll have to saw the power head apart to get to the base of the crank or to cut it free.

Its been soaking for over a week, I've tried heat, impact, and all sorts of penetrating fluids but no change. I've cut away about 1/3 of the mid housing to get at the upper shaft as well.

Its looking like the only way to separate the shaft from the crank is going to be to cut it out of the power head and then heat it up on the bench to get it off the splines.

Heating it now does nothing since I can't get anywhere near the crank itself this way. The brass part showing around the splines is spring loaded, I can push it down about 1/2" or so and it pops right back up.
Oil sits atop that area and slowly seeps downward through the splines but so far its done nothing.

The crankshaft has some seals that are supposed to keep water out (that likely failed) and will keep penetrating oil out as well. You might take a pick and see if you can tear them.

It appears to be a brass washer fitted over the splines that's spring loaded. I can push it down about 1/4" or so and it pops right back up undamaged.

Tranny fluid and acetone makes the best penatrating oil.

Been down your road though will little success.

I've been using a 50/50 mix of acetone and ATF, along with some Aerokroil and PB Blaster.
I smashed and peeled that brass washer out it let a spring come up, which I pulled out of the way, as well as an a splined rubber seal or o ring. The pocket around the splines holds fluid for about 30 minutes or so before it slowly seeps down. I'm not sure where its going because nothing is leaking out of the busted up power head onto the bench. I've put nearly a pint of penetrating oil on it so far.

If the seals are gone the penetrating oil can leak into the crankcase. That is what you want.

The prognosis for removing the gearcase is not looking good.
