I believe i have a 1988 Mariner 30hp 2 cylinder 2 stroke with a single carb that i cannot get to run good for the life of me. Compression is 130/125 i just rebuilt the carb and added a new fuel filter. Running 50:1 mix. I cannot find a manual online on how to time and set a good base for the carb. There is a mixture screw on it, idle screw and then some sort of screw up top that is seated all the way. Anyone know the degree which i need? Im attaching my vin plate below. About to just put my 06 mercury 4 stroke on my boat and call it a day! Haha TIA

Isn't it odd the motor has an electric starter and a pull starter? Maybe electric start was an option? So in that case they don't bother removing the pull start hardware?

Where did you get your manual? I have a 93 30hp tiller looks just like that and I'm trying to find out how to time it.

I found mine locally on marketplace, but there is a few on Amazon. Unfortunately it looks like the book cuts off at 89 so this shop manual will not work for your motor https://www.amazon.com/Mariner-Outboards-Cylinders-1977-1989-Tune-Up/dp/0893300152

On the other side, timing this motor is a joke. No matter what I seem to do the timing mark will always be a degree off because I cannot get the magneto base plate pushed fully against the crankcase, when trying to set the advanced timing the little single mark on the magneto plate does not reach to the TDC mark either. I have my timing pointer dang near perfect. I will probably be swapping this motor for my 2006 Mercury 15 horse in the future. Way easier to run and maintain, which is too bad because I really do love how this motor looks on this boat. Cheers

I should also note they want you to push the magneto plate while the entire motor is at 3000-3500 rpms with the throttle disconnected, they don’t want the motor to speed up but mine will always speed up because the timing is being advanced without any throttle. The whole thing sucks to do and is VERY DANGEROUS i have the timing good enough to where i think it will get on a plane but this is as far as I will take it as to they want you to do way too much with a spinning flywheel turning at 3500 rpms with teeth on it.

Timing does not change on these moto5rs.----Factory set.------Careful if you decide to make adjustments.
