Okay, I am getting stumped on this one. I have a 1987 Force 50 507F7C that is getting no spark. I have tested the stator (it tested at 473 so just below spec) and the trigger tested good at high end of spec at 52. So my question is one, could the stator being that close to spec cause a no fire situation? Also how would I test the coils. My coils have 4 wires coming out the back (Brown, black, orange, and blue) I tested for resistance between all wires. On both coils I only got resistance between blue and brown. So both coils are showing the same. So questions what is the proper way to test coil and what should I look for? Should the stator still function that close to spec? I appreciate the help.

There should be 5 wire connections on each CD-Coil module (not counting the plug wire). Brown, black, green, orange and blue.
Brown - shut down wire
Black - ground wire
Green and Orange - Trigger wires
Blue - stator wire or power wire.

The green and orange wires needs to be oriented properly with the trigger wires. The #1 cylinder (top one) should be connected:
Green (from #1 cd-coil mod) -> Green from trigger
Orange (from #1 cd-coil mod) -> Orange from trigger wire

#2 cylinder:
Green (from #2 cd-coil mod) -> Red from trigger wire
Orange (from #2 cd-coil mod) -> white/green from trigger wire

If all wires are connected properly, try disconnecting the brown wires (both wires from the two cd-coil mods) from the engine terminal board. Try again and if the motor starts or has sparks, the problem is with the ignition switch or the kill switch not being reset.

Jiggz thank you for your help. I did run a similar test as the brown wire test you speak of. However, the test I saw mentioned disconnect the rectifier as well. so the rectifier was disconnected as well. I will try to run the test the way you mentioned and see if I get any results. The coil definitely only has the 4 wires I specified above so no green wire.

More info. This is my father-in-laws boat. The boat ran fine for awhile. Then he had trouble starting it. Then in true redneck fashion he started jumping wires and could get it to start. I am not certain what he jumped. After the boat started he could shut it off and start it again if it was within a few minutes using just the key. If it sat overnight it would not start again unless he jumped wires again. Now he is getting nothing.

No Title

Here's a wiring diagram for '87-50HP with pre- "D" ignition system using the CD-Coil combo instead of the separate CD and Coil mods used by the "D" ignition system (88-99)

Double check the wiring and let us know which wiring the motor is using.
