I don't like to use additives or cleaners unless special cases (Just 2-cycle at 50:1 will do the lubrication job, and could always squirt a little into the cylinders before firing if desired.) As suggested, if run dry for even 30 seconds, should change out the impeller -- also think some regular running could improve compression, as mentioned.
Carbs may need cleaning and kits. I would check fuel for water or other stuff before running to avoid contaminating carbs whether you have first cleaned the carbs or not. (Another reason why I don't like adding solvents to the fuel source before running -- can loosen up and transfer nasties from tank.)
