Does anyone know why a 1987, 50hp Mercury outboard that cranks up quick and idles great will completely shut down when the throttle is engaged? I just replaced the stator and trigger switch on it and it fires right up and sounds like a new engine. It will go into gear if you engage the throttle slowly, but it shuts right down when the throttle goes more than halfway down.

Had the same problew with my 90hp, after hours of messing with it,a mech. fixed it in 10 min. It was simply major throttle linkage adj.

It cold be a carb problem in the high speed circuit. If this sounds like a possiblilty remove and clean out the carbs.
