1987 omc 3.0. The front engine mount, where it bolts to the block has a shim on each side of the mount. My question is Crowley marine says it takes two shims on the starboard side does anyone know why it needs two and not one??

I doubt anyone knows what you are referring to, might want to post a link or picture with an explanation of these shims. I have no clue what they are.

Well, I can't tell you why they use them, but if they call for 2 of item number 4 (Not #6) I would sure use them. If you don't the mount will not set square to the block. They are also called backup plates, not shims. What the difference is, I don't know. But between 86 and 90 they (OMC) used them, so if it was mine, I would too.
