Well I will attempt to explain my problem. My engine will start fine, normally idle, and will generally run fine for .5 to 5 miles, then it will just sputter and loose RPM. It will sometimes die, but most of the time if you pull the throttle back to idle speed, it will just idle rough for approx 30 sec to a min then smooth out. Sometimes you can take it back up and it will run according to my initial statement, and sometimes it bogs down again and you have to go through the process. I have had it in the shop and they have put it on the dyno and run it there and it runs beautifully. They have changed out the power packs to no avail.

The engine runs great when it runs, meaning it will still get about 6100 rpm. Anyone had the problem or have a good idea what it might be? One problem is I am about 50 miles from enough water to run it to get the problem to occur, so it has been had to get one of the mechanics to go to the lake.

sonds to me like you have a fuel delivery problem. the reason it runs for a few miles then bogs down is because your carbs arnt getting the fuel. let me guess, do the rpms go up and down at one point. may be a fuel pump. it will run smooth once you let off of the throdle because the pump has a chance to catch up with the carbs. once it has run for a while the carbs start sucking the fuel lines dry. i really dont think it is electrical. as far as it running fine on a dyno, i would expect it to. the motor isnt under a load like it would be when its pushing the boat in the water. it will use less fuel so the pump is able to keep up. check out the fuel system. let us know what you find out.

Take it down to the water with all your tools,
and run it until it fails.
Make sure the bulb isn't sucked flat.
Now pump bulb and hit the choke,
if it picks up its the fuel pump...

if not , try a timing light on each cyl to make sure its not dropping spark.
Draw some fuel and check for water.

Don't think it is a fuel problem as I have checked the fuel lines/bulb and they are delivering fuel. I had my son try to pump the bulb when it started to occur and it was full of fuel.

I believe it is in the electrical system as it seems to be more prevalent when the outside temps are higher.

Anyway, thanks for your input.
