I have a 1987 15 hp Force (gamefisher) and am trying to replace the recoil spring and put a new pullrope on. Is there a special way to get the tension on the spring and hold it while I also attach a new pull rope. Am I going to need a special tool for this job or can it be done with an extra set of hands. I also need to know which way to turn the spring clockwise or counterclock wise? Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I do not have an owners manual for this engine.
Thanks

There is a special tool to do this.It can be done with out it, it's tricky.
If I remember right there is only one way to wind it. RIGHT I believe.(it's been a while).I think a big bladed screwdriver????.
Call your local dealer this tool is cheap and comes in very handy.Jerry

jerryjerry05,
Thanks for the reply
If you use a large bladed screw driver what do you do with the screwdriver and how do you wind the spring and keep the tension on it?
Thanks

I have a 1986 15 hp Force. When I pull the cord, the fly wheel turns clockwise. Hope this helps.
