1987 140 vro

I just picked up an 87 bayliner capri with the 140 hp 4 cylinder with VRO. My question is for those of you who own a VRO system. Do you trust the sytem, how reliable is it, do you hear of pumps failing a lot, and if it does fail is it a catastrophic failure to the engine? Do you bypass the VRO and just mix your gas 50:1 and if so do you just pour in the oild to the gas tank and then fill up the gas? Any tips will be greatly appreciated, Thanks.

Sorry this must be a beaten down subject. I did try to search the threads, but something is goofy with the search field because i get zero results when I search "vro".

If premixing the ratio is 50/1. VRO2 systems have alarms that tell you when the oil in the reservoir is low and also when the pump stops pumping oil. As for their reliability, everyone has an opinion it seems. I ran it on my 1988 110 and it worked well without any incidents. I did however disconnenect it 2 weeks ago but only because I bought a 2 stroke premix kicker motor and it's just convienient and safe for me to have only 1 type of fuel on board. If you have a built in tank it makes it a little more complicated unless you fill with premixed jerry cans of fuel.
