I purchased a retirement/ restoration project less than a year ago. I had it docked for about 2 months before I had it hauled for Rack storage During the Winter. When it was pulled they told me I lost my Skeg. So come spring I had that addressed and found out that my Gimble bearing was shot.. While that was being done they found issues with the Stringers, Main Bulkhead and the bottom portion of the transom. I am having them replace the one Stringer that the worst of the two and I am going to re-consider of going any further.

My question is replacing the one stringer as I am now having done then replacing the other stinger and bulkhead in front of the engine an okay method. I just didn't want to throw 6K plus all at once. I was thinking of doing the other stringer and bulkhead next summer/spring. In the meantime I was going to inspect and epoxy any areas that could be suspect of where the water got in. this is a Rack kept boat for now until I repair all wood issues. I know I will pay the extra to once agin pull the engine put simply did not have the money at this time. Also I am afraid what will show up further in front of the main bulkhead.

You never seem to win doing a partial job . . . it usually comes around and you are paying more in time and/or money in the end. Might not be that much more to have everything done at once. There is a lot of cost in just disassembling things and tearing things apart. Less in the actual re-build.

if a stringer needs to be replaced, pretty sure they all do....and the bulkheads.....and the transom

its a 1986 boat, so guaranteed it has rot.

only way to fix it is to jump into a full on restoration by completely gutting the hull and moving forward.

Honestly if you aren't going to tackle a full restoration yourself, I'd sell this boat ASAP.
