1986 omc side mount gear & throttle control

trying to change shift & throtle cables, but can get the the control box to come apart. Have taken all screws out but will not break apart. is their a trick to getting it to come apart to get to cables?

Did you take the handle off?

Trying to get off, is their a special chuck key tool to take off the handle?

If you have the control box off the boat, you need to loosen the allen screw from the rear of the control three complete turns. Then, support the control so that the arm is loose and use a small punch placed in the allen screw to drive the control arm off. Use a soft mallet, not a steel head hammer.
