1986 mercruiser 120 engine question help please

i have a merc 120 its runs nice at idle but when im open wide it shuts off n on like it loses power then kicks back in ...do you think my problem is fuel related it happens alot when the boat moves around in the waves alot too ....please help

Howdy,

Sounds like a fuel delivery problem.

replace the fuel filter and open up the fuel tank and check the tank strainer. one or both are probably plugged.

the tank is on the side you cant open it up so ill just change the filter see if it helps .thanks

If the tank has a pick-up screen and it's plugged, changing the filter won't help.

can you remove the tank?

I'm surprised you can not get the tank. I would empty the tank and remove the fuel filler hose and I would take the pickup /fuel guage out they are always in a spot to get to and look in there with a flash light.

What is the tank made out of ?

What brand is this boat ?
