1986 Johnson 9.9

Ok new here and have a question that probably has been asked 1000 times but here goes. I have a 1986 Johnson 9.9 engine J10RLCDB. NO WATER OUT THE PEE HOLE. I have rebuilt the water pump and since that have pulled it twice more to confirm its working. I have also replaced thermostat with new spring and gasket. Tested in a tank of cold water yesterday and from what I saw the pump is pulling water in thru inlet and dumping it out the outlet but not water out the pee hole. I took it apart again today and blew compressed air in the pump tube and it blew it out the pee hole. Blocked off the pee hole and blew out the outlet. Why am I not getting any water out the pee hole if air is going in and coming out the right spots and water is coming out out the outlet on lower? Any thoughts? I don't think the grommet on the top of the water tube is compromised being that water is coming out where it's supposed to. Any help would be much appreciated.

It often happens that a spider or other insect builds a little home in the rubber hose that the water is supposed to squirt out of. Use a piece of wire to make sure that the outlet is not clogged. That often solves the problem

You say water isn't coming out the pea tube but then you say the grommet is good because it's coming out where it's supposed to. That makes no sense.

Some things you can do is start it and shoot it with an IR gun and see if it's staying cool. Also, remove the rubber hose from the pea nozzle and the barbed fittings coming off the block. Then unscrew the fitting coming off the block, start it and see if water shoots out. I've had them plug right there behind the fitting.

Thanks that worked. Why does the water level need to be that high in order for the impeller to push water up and thru? Is there something else that I should be worried about or am I good to go?

The pump is not self priming.-----It does not pump / move air very well.---- I would inspect impeller .

^^like he says. Also, check head temps when testing (top of head). Too hot to touch is too hot to run. If you have an IR tester, look for 120-140F at idle (could be less. Hose water is probably about 40F.)
